The world of Dutch and Leerdam glass has primarily been a ‘white’ part of history for almost 250 years. With the exhibition Black Glass this statement is made:’Black Art Matters’.
For the exhibition Black Glass guest curator Melvin Anderson selected four artists with a Surinamese background. Each of these ‘black achievers’ has earned his/her spurs in his own field. Brian Coutinho works with ceramics, jewelry designs by Chequita Nahar, Marcel Pinas is a visual artist and Harvey Bouterse makes fashion and ceramics.

Especially for Black Glass these artists have transformed their unique art style to glass; a new material to most of them. This has yielded extraordinary and diverse artworks which together form a powerful exhibition.

“We all share the same roots. Caribbean artists have their own approach to the arts, so I am confident that we can offer something completely new”, said Melvin Anderson.

The exhibition Black Glass will travel to the Academic Medical Center (AMC) and CBK Zuidoost, both venues in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
