On September 5th Readytex Art Gallery (RAG) once again presents a new Thursday-Night-Feature (TNF). In the limelight this time around is visual artist Shaundell Horton, who will present the artworks that she has been working on in the recent period. Up until now the work of Shaundell is mostly recognizable because of her collage techniques with among other things used teabags and items referring to her birth country Guyana. Shaundell chose the materials and colors because of the feelings of peace, warmth and nostalgia that they evoke within her. Gradually, the need to visualize her bond with her country of birth is replaced by the urge to take on a new challenge, to experiment. This is clearly evident in the work displayed at this TNF and the imagery in the collection is indeed quite varied. In some of the works the teabags are still present and serve as a background for faces with strong expressions. Or for images of nature featuring one central human figure, inspired by current environmental issues. In the subsequent works the imagery becomes increasingly abstract. The shapes, colors and subject matter are no longer tied to a specific theme and experimentation is clearly the dominant factor. And we get to see a different side of Shaundell. Op donderdag 5 september opent in Readytex Art Gallery (RAG) een nieuwe Thursday-Night-Feature (TNF). In de spotlight deze keer beeldend kunstenaar Shaundell Horton, die laat zien waar zij de afgelopen periode aan gewerkt heeft. Het werk van Shaundell is tot nu toe vooral herkenbaar vanwege haar collagetechnieken met bijvoorbeeld gebruikte theezakjes en elementen die verwijzen naar haar geboorteland Guyana. Shaundell koos de materialen en kleuren vanwege het gevoel van rust, warmte en nostalgie die ze bij haar oproepen. Geleidelijk aan is de behoefte om de band met haar moederland te verbeelden, vervangen door een drang een nieuwe uitdaging aan te gaan, om te experimenteren. In het werk dat de gallery op deze TNF toont, is die behoefte duidelijk waar te nemen en de beeldtaal in de collectie is dan ook gevarieerd. In een deel van het werk zijn de theezakjes nog aanwezig en dienen dan als achtergrond voor gezichten met expressieve uitdrukkingen. Of voor natuurbeelden waarin één mensfiguur centraal staat, met actuele milieukwesties als thema. In de laatste paar werken wordt het beeld steeds abstracter. De vormen, kleuren en het onderwerp zijn niet langer aan een thema verbonden en het experiment heeft heel duidelijk de overhand. En Shaundell laat zich daar weer van een andere kant zien.
