What: Lost in Nature, an exhibition curated by Sri Irodikromo

Lost in Nature is the first in a series of three group exhibitions for which artist Sri Irodikromo is the designated curator. This within the framework of the larger ALAKONDRE: A Space in Time project running at our gallery until the end of this year. The new exhibition, titled Lost in Nature opens in Readytex Art Gallery (RAG) on Thursday evening August 4th, 2022.
For Sri Irodikromo, nature has long played an important role in her creative process. As a visual artist she often experiments with the use of natural materials. Her last solo exhibition in particular, Udan Liris, was a striking manifestation of artworks in which she substituted acrylic paint with natural pigments derived from among other things, coffee, turmeric and pemba. As curator, she continues her dialogue with nature, intrigued by the possibilities that it offers. Materials produced by nature, thus become the focus for the group exhibition that she names Lost in Nature. But unnatural or synthetic materials and traces of human activity that end up in nature as waste, also play a role in order to reflect on our ecological footprint. The ‘Local Master’ in Lost in Nature is Peter Holman. He uses waste materials to make unique artworks, which Sri displays in the exhibition alongside the work of other artists. From the collection of Readytex Art Gallery, Sri adds works by the artists Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Hanka Wolterstorff, John Lie A Fo, Kenneth Flijders, Leonnie van Eert, Miguel E. Keerveld, Roddney Tjon Poen Gie, Shaundell Horton, Steven Towirjo and also herself. The guest artists in Lost in Nature are: Clerence Ranoesetiko, Coco Duivenvoorde, Latoya de Gama and Marianne Hiralal. All artists have their very own way of incorporating that which nature has to offer in their work. The materials that they use can vary from natural pigments to wood, branches and lianas, from ceramics to plastic or paper waste, and even to fragments from old wooden houses. As such, the exhibition displays the incredible diversity that is evident in Surinamese artworks.
Lost in Nature opens in Readytex Art Gallery on Thursday August 4th, 2022 at 7:30 pm. On this evening you are welcome in our gallery from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. From this day on, the exhibition is open during the regular opening hours of the gallery from Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm and on Saturday from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm. Readytex Art Gallery heeft in augustus weer een interessante groepsexpositie voor u op schema. Het is de eerste in een serie van drie exposities waarvoor beeldend kunstenaar Sri Irodikromo de aangewezen curator is. Dit in het kader van het grotere ALAKONDRE: A Space in Time project dat tot eind van het jaar in de galerie loopt. Deze eerste groepsexpositie, genaamd Lost in Nature, opent op donderdag 4 augustus en eenieder is welkom.
De natuur speelt een belangrijke rol in het creatief proces van Sri Irodikromo. Als beeldend kunstenaar experimenteert zij met het gebruik van natuurlijke materialen. Haar laatste solo-expositie vooral, was een opvallende manifestatie van kunstwerken waarin ze voornamelijk pigmenten verkregen uit onder andere koffie, kurkuma en pemba gebruikt in plaats van acrylverf. Als curator zet ze haar dialoog met de natuur voort, gefascineerd door de vele mogelijkheden die deze ons biedt. Materialen voortgebracht door de natuur vormen daarmee de focus van de expositie Lost in Nature. Ook onnatuurlijke of synthetische materialen en sporen van menselijk handelen die als restanten in de natuur terechtkomen, spelen een rol als reflectie op onze ecologische footprint. De ‘Local Master’ van Lost in Nature is kunstenaar Peter Holman. Van afvalmateriaal maakt hij aparte kunstwerken die Sri in de expositie samenbrengt met werken van andere kunstenaars. Uit de collectie van Readytex Art Gallery neemt Sri werk op van de kunstenaars Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Hanka Wolterstorff, John Lie A Fo, Kenneth Flijders, Leonnie van Eert, Miguel E. Keerveld, Roddney Tjon Poen Gie, Shaundell Horton, Steven Towirjo en zichzelf. De gastkunstenaars van Lost in Nature zijn: Clerence Ranoesetiko, Coco Duivenvoorde, Latoya de Gama en Marianne Hiralal. Alle kunstenaars gaan in hun werk op verschillende wijzen om met de natuur en onze menselijke sporen daarin. Zij gebruiken materialen variërend van natuurpigmenten tot hout, takken en lianen, van keramiek tot afvalpapier en -plastic, en ook delen van oude houten huizen. De expositie toont hiermee de rijke diversiteit van Surinaamse kunstwerken.
Lost in Nature opent in Readytex Art Gallery op donderdag 4 augustus 2022 om 19:30 uur. De galerie is op deze avond open van 19:00 tot 21:00 uur. Daarna kunt u de expositie bezoeken tijdens de reguliere openingstijden, van maandag t/m vrijdag van 08:00-16:30 uur en op zaterdag van 08:30-13:30 uur.
