What: De Naakte Waarheid [The Naked Truth]

When: January 26 until June 16, 2019

De Naakte Waarheid [The Naked Truth] is an ambitous exhibition with many prestigious artists participating. From Suriname Ken Doorson participates with his work ‘Humano’. It is made from plastic recycle material.

The search for identity, and the role of history and culture in the formation of that identity, is an important theme in the work of Ken Doorson (1978). ‘The color black contains a bit of every color, that is how I see the world’, he says.

‘I AM CONSTANTLY TRYING TO FIND A SYNERGY BETWEEN COLOR, SHAPE AND EXPRESSION.’ – Ken Doorson

From the website of the Rijksmuseum Twenthe: ‘The Naked Truth tells the history of the development of Western man from the Renaissance to the 21st century. An exhibition about people who dare to admit uncertainty and doubt in their urge for knowledge and self-development, but also have to learn to deal with the freedom that man has created for himself and, ultimately: the consequences. For how will man relate to his technical inventions in the coming century? To the ecological changes that he brings about? And how does he live with people who do not necessarily share his worldview?

An exhibition about who we are and how we have become. The nude in six centuries of visual art.

The Naked Truth tells an originally Western but now worldwide story with six centuries of visual art in more than 110 works by Marina Abramovic, G.H. Breitner, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Jan Sluijters, Geertgen tot Sint Jans, herman de vries, Andres Serrano, Andy Warhol, Carel Willink and many others. In this exhibition the different art forms are not separated from each other but complement each other. In addition to numerous drawings, paintings and sculptures, prose and poetry are also shown.’

For those who are not able to visit the exhibition there is a digital summary available. Please enjoy!
